Before I came to Canada, I had been sick of my previous job though everybody thought it was a promising one-high income, relaxing environment and lovely colleagues. However, I was losing passion on it and everything moved in the opposite direction. It’s the first time I felt lost about my future, and for sure I wanted to change a more creative job, exactly a career that I can enjoy and dedicate myself to. Immigrating to Canada is a critical turning point in my life though things have never been easy to start a whole new life in an unfamiliar country, especially in such non-native environment, but it really gives me a chance and courage to restart myself.
During my past job, I had chance to assist marketing department to organize different education and immigration expos, which made me feel satisfied when the events were well organized and successfully appealing to customers. By doing a lot of research and comparison, I chose Seneca because of its diversity and partnerships with industry leaders, giving us more interaction with potential employers and practical hands-on experience. But the most attraction was I found my career inside-Event Marketing, a field that I tried to engage but failed due to my lack of experience and background, particularly it is specialized in sports, entertainment and arts. I like traveling, music and visiting arts exhibitions, and always dream of being involved in these events planning. I followed a weibo (a social media similar to twitter in China) called Canadian Life Express and found there are many kinds of festival on arts, culture and music held across Canada every month. Since Canada is a multi-cultural country that my dream job is to be a cultural event organizer, promoting different countries’ music, arts and cultures in this melting pot.
Indeed I have high hope for the EVM program and the orientation week performance actually exceeded my expectation as well as ascertained my confidence in Seneca’s study. I never thought that we would go directly meet our potential employers and share their successful experience at the very beginning. I really appreciate this practice-oriented course, which brings us more into the actual circumstances and build up our social network in advance. I am always prepared for all challenges, though I know there must be more difficulties ahead. I hope I can arm myself with knowledge and practice through this program and find a relevant job to start my new career.
